just curious what the LW enthusiasts are using for beacon hunting. i'm
using a palstar r30 and a kenwood r-1000 with the palstar beating the r-1000 out. the r-1000 hold its own on the MW bands, but on LW it's no match for the palstar. been thinking about purchasing a sony 2010 anyone with experience with this radio below 540Khz? sincerely, john |

There's a signal in the R-1000 that desensitizes it below 2 MHz. A DC control line (D7, D8, R87, Q8) off the MHz knob that turns on a transistor in the IF. If you got a tunable preselector, (matched to the strange antenna impedance for the Medium/Low Wave input), you could disconnect this signal (pull out/clip a lead on R87). I live in sight of a 1/4 megawatt (KOMO-1000, KIRO-710, etc.) collection of AM transmitters, so I've never tried it out. YMMV.
