For one thing, coal mining is hideously destructive to the local
environment. *There is no way to avoid that eventuality, and decent
reclamation is prohibitively expensive in some cases. *Second, even
the cleanest burning of coal puts a lot of junk into somebody's
lungs. *Both of these things cost money in the mid and long-term. *One
way or another, you pay the piper. *I'd rather pay without also
sacrificing the health and lives of humans and animals, to the
greatest extent possible.
