Sangean ATS-505P turn on to noise sometimes

I've got a Sangean ATS-505P FM Stereo/MW/LW/SW PLL Synthesized World Receiver.

However, sometimes when i turn on the radio, there's just background noise. i changed band/frequency, extend the antenna, change directions, to no vail. what could be possiblely going wrong?
