I have a VF-1 and tryed to hook it up to a Globe Scout. Pins 6 and 7 are
jumpered on the scout for 6.3.. Does the pins stay jumpered?..Nothing in the manual to show a hookup for it.. I just smoked the VFO I think..: P --- Outgoing mail is certified Virus Free. I got scedmatics to both. The VFO was wired for a Viking 2.
The VFO has four wires.. red (HV), green/yellow and shield. The pins on the Scout are 3(HV), 6 and 7 jumpered (I assume Filament) and 1 and 2 ground.. I wired it once and the VFO came on but no filament in the Scout. rewired then smoke... I wish they had instructions for these things..: P Does'nt say why pins 6 and 7 are jumpered...how a VFO hookup is accomplished with these pins jumpered. Tossed it. I get another and try again...thanks.. "GS" wrote in message news.com... I doubt the pinout of the Globe will match directly that of the VF1. Before you do anything, get a schematic of BOTH. Very likely the voltages will be adequate from the Globe to properly run the VF1, but odds of the pins matching up directly is zilch zero nada. But easy solution - just map out each connector with B+, Ground, and Filament AC on each connector - then get a mating plug for each unit and wire the appropriate pins together and make up an adapter. Should work like a charm - but just verify the B+ requirements of the VF1 first - make sure the Globe Scout supplies the correct voltage. Do you really think you smoked the VF1? Open it up - most likely you put B+ where it didn't want to go. There are few components in a VF1 (comparatively speaking) - all that would smoke is a resistor or two, and if you put B+ on the filament, you had a very bright and expensive light bulb for just a microsecond. But the VF1 should recover fine if you replace what smoked and make the adapter. Hopefully nothing burned in the Globe - the worst thing would be smoking its power transformer. but highly unlikely. Don't give up :-) GET SCHEMATICS!!!! Good luck. GS "Jos" wrote in message ... I have a VF-1 and tryed to hook it up to a Globe Scout. Pins 6 and 7 are jumpered on the scout for 6.3.. Like GS said... you only have 2 voltages and ground to choose from.
Just measure them.....and hook-em up. If you want to make it even easier...you can just hook up the filaments first to verify they are lighting. You could even hook the VFO to an external source of filament voltage just to be sure it works (filaments light up). In the 50's through 70's, novices were hooking up Johnson and Knightkit, Heathkit and Hallicrafters VFO's to everything and everything. (Halli has its own supply!) Good luck! ...Dave "Jos" wrote in message ... I got scedmatics to both. The VFO was wired for a Viking 2. The VFO has four wires.. red (HV), green/yellow and shield.
