Worse than that. The poor thing should be tied to the end of a chain and
generously put out of its embarassingly miserable existance. Boatanchors
deserve to be left as found if they can't be properly retored.

Maybe I'll just paint it red and white, put a Coca-Cola label on it,
and sell it for $1,500.

The line in your post that I picked up on was, " Boatanchors

guess I read more into it than was there.

Actually I was looking for a better back and bottom cover for one that
I already have, so the knobs don't matter. Anyway, they will be red.

Leaving aside the question of radios feeling either embarassment or misery,
whoever owns the thing is free to do pretty much what he wants to do with
it. Considering the number of nice original S-38s out there, it doesn't
seem worthwhile to bring that one back to something like it's original
appearance. I have an original S-38 with the BFO and steel bottom. The
paint's all scratched up bad, much of the scratches across the lettering. I
think it would look much nicer chrome plated.
