As a retired DJ, I have a good set of headphones that I use from time to
time. These are not the huge ones where the earpiece does not move hardly
at all, but where there is a little bit of "play" allowed. I have used sets
like these for years as a DJ and enjoyed the comfort of those. Typically
they have a "walkman" size plug and include an adapter for 1/4 inch
headphone plugs. Places like Radio Shack sell the adapter to go from
"walkman size" plugs to the "sub-mini" size plug too. Go to any large,
decent audio retailer (Bestbuy or similar) and take a look at some of them,
and even try them out!

Also, depending on the headphones, you may not necessarily need to have the
"band" that goes between the two earpieces on the top of your cranium......
Many wear that under the chin or behind the head, or whatever works to make
it comfortable.

Good luck,

Give a person a fish and you feed them for a day; teach that
person to use The Internet and they won't bother you for weeks.

I've been using a pair of fold up ear "muffs" with walkman type ear
buds, but after the last race my ears and head ached. So, I've been
looking at regular scanner noise reduction headsets, in particular the
Radio Shack unit p/n: 33-1158.

Does anyone have these, and if so, how are they to wear for long
periods, ie a full race? sound?

Thanks

I have them (stock number 33-1198 not -1158), but never tried them at a
racetrack. Never used them for any extended period either. (I bought them
to use for ham radio use at a loud public serivce event .. but ended up
using something else)

They seem to be well built, and very similar to "commercial" headsets.

My advice ... buy a pair just before a race. Use them and see what you
think. If you don't like them then just return them under RS's excellent
return policy.
