This is what takes all the fun out of shortwave nowadays! Might as well
listen via the internet as through these relays.

*Back in 1983 they had 4 500 kw transmitters at Sabrata and 1 100 kw transmitter
at Tripoli.

If I had to listen to shortwave via dialup I'd go nuts. It spends more time
buffering in spurts than playing the sound LOL. I don't know if it is better
using DSL or cable, but I'd sure be disappointed if it were not g.

Not really Art. IMO (no offense to Steve or the others) is when someone
excitedly posts they grabbed what they feel is a good catch.

Then someone (usually two to five replies) will jump on to let them know that
the place they heard was transmitted just a mile and a half up their street
from a relay...lol.

I say let them find out on their own, I know when I started, just hearing
anything that sounded remotely far away got me jacked, of course now I know
(more often than not....through endless books and notes etc. etc.) what I'm
hearing. That's why I don't even really post anymore on what I hear.

I know what I hear now and it's logged or if I get around to it, I qsl them.
I remember when I logged something pretty impressive on the BCB (I'd have to
look back in my notes) and I posted in here all excited and (not to be named)
AM DX Expert of all time jumped on me berating me and telling me that there was
NO WAY I could hear that because ......followed by the typical technical
jargon.....but I KNEW I did because I called the station....lol.

All it takes is to be listening at the right time and at the right
place......maybe even a certain antenna just at that moment would 'outpick it'
compared to something more expensive.

**The internet DOES NOT (IMO) even closely take away from 'real' radio. :-)

The official government website says that the transmitter for 17695 is
out of Tripoli. So does the WRTH.

Please post the URL for the Official Government Website!

All other sources I have at present would indicate that the
transmission(s) originate from France, however I would be interested in
seeing what the official site says.

As for the WRTH, for a good number of years the accuracy (or lack thereof)
has left many in doubt.
