the reason for the federal marriage amendment is because -states'-
decisions on this issue are being undermined by the -federal- courts?



On the amendment, I'd rather make it easier to overturn rogue court decisions. Go after the real problem instead of a symptom.

I feel a reasonable compromise on the "Gay Marriage" issue would be for Gay folks to give up the word "Marriage" but for "Civil Unions" to have the same legal status.
