Default Northern Lights are bright in Twin Cities, MN

We usually don't see them here with all the ungodly light pollution... I'm
just north of downtown St. Paul, MN and the aurora borealis are very bright
to the north, east, west and overhead. Sheets of green and even red.
Haunting and beautiful! The lower SW bands are "hissy" and otherwise pretty
quiet where I am at...

Got 'em here in Burnsville (South Twin Cities Metro area).

Try FM, Jackie - I have been hearing CITI-FM from Winnipeg
on 92.1 (You'll need a yagi, though; KQ-92 is mighty close).

Good show in northeast US too.

About half the stations such as Radio Moscow sound like they are under
water. A lot of stations with fluctuating signal levels tonight.

I'm glad I read this post, because I suspected something was going on that was
affecting DX this evening. I was having trouble even getting WWV on any
frequency! My shack is in the midwest also, located in the suburbs of Chicago.
I think I'll just shut down the receivers, and poke my head outside, to see if
I can catch "The Lights". Good DXing to you, Gary

We had them in Central Oregon this evening as well. Just caught the tail end
at about 0500 Z. Had some auroral propagation on 144 mhz cw as well, and of
course the FM broadcast stations were coming in from all over the place. It
is supposed to stay like this for a couple of days. Check out:

Lucky son of a gun.

I have a friend who was deer hunting near Biwabik, and he says
the same. They were visible in the Twin Cities, but not spectacular.
I'll keep watching tonight, just the same. The FM band has quieted
down just a bit, as well - HF is dead as a doornail. I can hear KYCR-1570
from Golden Valley just fine, as there is no competition on the same
channel.

I grew up in St. Paul in the 60's (now a resident of Texas), but I seem to
recall one time around then that we could see the lights. Sure doesn't
happen very often.
