Default Icom R75 Owners Please Read

I purchased a new Icom R-75 about 3 weeks ago, and noticed that there is no
clear plastic window covering the LCD panel. Touching the LCD panel causes
the blurring or distortion effect on the digits that you would normally see.

After checking the Yahoo newsgroup one other person responded that his R75
does not have the window either. This surprises me, since even my $5 desk
calculator has a protective window for the LCD panel.

So now I'm wondering if it was left off some radios during manufacture, or
if this is actually a design flaw.

Could owners of R-75's please reply to this post whether or not their
receiver has a clear protective window over the LCD panel?

Well, the one I own doesn't. I don't think that any of them do.

My R-75 didn't come with any friggin' Saran Wrap patches stuck to it.
Usually it is the sync detector the people complain about.

Just kiss it up to god and hope for the best...

No cover on mine. My notebook does the same thing. Don't poke at it...

I just got mine like a month ago and it has no cover I can detect. Hmm,
perhaps like one poster said the lens might distort the LCD but someone I
just can't see how. This is good question to ask Icom support about.

Usually these things are resource based decisions. I guess they felt it was
unneccessary and not worth adding. I would have never noticed it till you
pointed it. Now I have to think of this and you every time I look at the
display

Hey wait, look at large LCD TV screens and some monitors. They have no
protective plate at all. I guess for visual quality. Might apply here too.

Adding things like the protective window would add to the cost of the
radio, and it's probably not the sort of feature people think about when
shopping.

Another radio without protection for the LCD's is the Racal 6790 - and
this may be one reason why there's a regular market for replacements.

Mark,
do you use the sideband feature using the 9Mhz 2.4 filter? I've been
testing it and it works pretty well. I'm surprised Icom doesn't advertise
this as a feature.

DG - Gee Wow ! You Are Right )

I just 'touched' the LCD and you are right the Numbers do seem to
change ever so slightly; when a finger is place on them :-{

Note: The LCD is rather 'deeply' Recessed from the other Front
Panel Surface Areas of the Radio.

But maybe its me, my stubby old fingers have a tendancy to move
about the Radio 'touching' the Knobs and Buttons ;-}

It is my Eyes that are 'focused' on the LCD Screen :]

I scanned the Icom IC-R75 Manual and could not find any reference
to the 'fact' that it had a "Touch-Screen" Feature 8-)

Heh, that's what it is - a touch screen! 'Course it won't actually control
anything - that will be included in the R75-A

You get a similar effect touching the L.E.D. screen on Pioneer Super-Tuner car
radios, also.
