Is that FS Sony ICF-7600GR radio really as good as some folks say they
are? What shortwave bands and frequencies do they tune in,are they good
at pulling in long distance AM stations? What is the website/store that
has that radio? I am thinking about buying one.

I love my Sony 7600GR - nothing comes close to its build quality and
performance in a single package. Nothing!

Dear Cuhulin,

The Sony ICF-SW7600GR has the LW, MW (AM broadcast), FM (including the
Japanese band), and SW (continuous to 30 MHz). In other words, it
features complete coverage with no "gaps." It is, in my opinion, the
finest small portable radio on the market. (I have three [3] of them
as well as two [2] of its predecessor model the Sony ICF-SW7600G; the
'GR is better.)

MW (AM) reception is superb; a Select-A-Tenna can be used though,
frankly, I have rarely found it to be necessary (note: I do rather
little MW DXing). If you do wish to use a Select-A-Tenna (or the Terk
equivalent) you would use that antenna only in close proximity to the
receiver as the antenna connection is only for the SW frequencies.
But, as I stated, I don't know that it is always necessary; others may
comment differently on this subject.

There are many dealers which sell the radio; it is available from
Universal Radio, from J&R Music World, from Amazon (their price
varies, but is sometimes pretty good), but right now the best price I
have seen is that of Bennett Brothers, Inc., a very reputable firm
which is evidentally closing them out (Bennett is essentially a
jewelry firm which sells many other products but cannot "feature"
individual ones enough to make stocking them cost-effective I
suppose). I received their close-out catalog a few days ago and noted
the presence of this radio therein. When I checked their website, I
couldn't find the radio, but you can call them toll-free at
1-800-621-2626 and ask for information. I shouldn't wait too long as I
have posted the information on several sites (I have seen some posts
stating that the writer had purchased one) and I don't know how many
Bennett had. At $109.00 plus $9.00 shipping, that radio qualifies as a
fantastic bargain. (Frankly, due to its outstanding performance for a
portable, it qualifies as a bargain even at its full price of
$170.00!)

[I didn't order the radio (even I can't justify buying another one of
them!) though I did order some 2-line telephones which they are
offering at a spectacular price. My order arrived in two days.]

You can't go wrong with the Sony ICF-SW7600GR!

All the best,

Joe
