I have run into the same problems. I use an old 486 75MHz laptop with DOS
and Win3.1 This system works fine.......I woudn't want to use a faster
computer either.

I would point out, from direct and bitter experience, that this
system is still way too fast for some of the older DOS RSS packages,
including:

Syntor X9000
MCX1000
(possibly) HT600
(possibly) MT1000

The authoritative references on computer compatibility with
Motorola's RSS packages can be found at:

A listing of Motorola's current RSS versions, and their
compatibility with various OS versions, is at:

There is also a Motorola Technical Service Bulletin floating
around which describes, in gruesome detail, which packages are expected
to work on a fast computer and which are not.

This system sounds like a good deal, but I would urge any buyers
to research compatibility first.

Windows 98 Operating System

One thing you should NEVER, under ANY conditions do, is try to run
DOS-based RSS in a "DOS Window" on a Windows-based machine. Motorola's
DOS-based RSS requires total control over the serial port's UART, and
this is something that Windows does not typically allow.

However... If you have played the programmin game as long as I have,
you'll also find some computer have a distaste for motorola software
more that others. Although for Maxtrac, MT1000, HT600 as you quoted,
you MAY have to go into the BIOS, It WILL run those with no probem and
still can use used for other uses.

I have found that a 486 computer with DOS/Win3.1 runs all of these programs
with no problem. Even a Gateway 75MHz Pentium had problems with some of the
Moto programs while running DOS. Not sure here, but when there are computers
available that you don't have to fiddle with the BIOS, why bother? Of
course, yours could be some of the lucky computers..................good
luck on the sale. Your prices are reasonable.
