Concerning the "Bonus Army" of 1932, where veterans of The War to End
All Wars (1917/1918) were due a bonus in 1945, but wanted payment
early because they lost their homes in the Great Depression, Franklin
Roosevelt is to have said:

"Is to have said?" I would think that Roosevelt has pretty well said what
he is going to, by now!

Also: It's not amazing that Roosevelt would short-change veterans. When the
S.F. dockworkers went on strike during WW2, refusing to load ammo and
supplies for our troops, Roosevelt ordered the shipping companies to cave to
the union demands instead of having a few of the union ringleaders
imprisoned, beaten or shot, as any reasonable person would do with socialist
traitors who attempt to extort and undermine the country during a time of
war.
