Hello, Jim

Remember when even the Sears catalogue had radios in them? I'm not

talking
cb radios, I mean Hallicrafters receivers etc. That was in the early

60s
as
I recall (probably earlier too - but that was before I got interested in
them).

I went on the air as a Novice with a Hallicrafters S-40B I bought from
Sears in the 1952 timeframe. I passed on the BC-610 though, used an
80M ARC-5.

Hmmm...1952...just beginning ham ops...that was when you left your
hormone-infused prom date bereft of smooches on her front porch in
order to rush home and operate with your new license?

That was even better than the Tales of the South Pacific when you
were shooting bears for naval intelligence!

Love those old radio tales! :-)

Was that a 6, 12, or 24 volt radio?

The E.F.Johnson Viking Messenger CB? 12 VDC and 115 VAC, take
your pick. :-)

It wouldn't work after one catapult shot and on front porches only with
a long set of jumper cables. It did use a vibrator, though I don't think
it would be suitable for [expletive deleted]. I guess it was moisture
and fungus proof enough to use in the south Pacific. Have no idea if
naval intelligence used them.

All of this is in line with the NON-policy discussions in here involving
choo-choos and trolleys, 25 Hz AC, architects, family lineages, SAG
and AFTRA personalities, and vette-eating muscle cars now
languishing in barns. [one has to act like a native morseman in here
nowadays...]

I'll have to look in on the ARRL website to see if they have some
important amateur radio information regarding old choo-choos and
trolleys, family lineages, architects, and muscle cars. Important
policy stuff that they might use for justifying the morse test forever.

Wonder if "Electric Radio" fanzine will turn into "Eclectic Radio?"
Any day now in this chat room. :-)
