I doubt the military expects cell phone service in battle zones.
I don't think they do either, but the intent was not war fighting, but
disaster comms in the USA. I suggest that the cell phone is the best
thing that non-amateurs have going for them. See the long line of
jabs from JJ and cronies.
Cell phones will be fine for small emergencies (car accidents and such)
but are likely to
be down for earthquakes (not guarenteed to be dead, some cell sites will
survive and
still have connections to the rest of the world. Some people in LA
still had 'net access
after their last big earthquake years ago. But you can't plan on any
one system so you should
have a selection avaliable to improve your odds of having something
usable when the shjt
hits the fan....
