Believe it or not, I use an Astatic D-104 with the amplifier darn near
completely off.
Find a used one at a hamfest for 40-50 bucks. My brother, KK4TI, had one
wired with an 8 pin plug for his IC 725. He sold the 725 and I bought the
D-104. The price of the adapter cord aint so bad if you can buy a decent mike
at a good price.
I would also suggest a Shure 526-T. That mike has been my warhorse on about
12 different rigs, with excellent results.
