(Chad Wahls) I've been shopping for a base CB. The first
one I was sold on was the Cherokee CBS1000, it looked easy to use and
modify and it had weather channels. Something good in the sticks in
Illinois during tornado season.
but.... The Galaxy DX2547 has been catching my eye. It appears to be a
more robust and intuative radio, Although lacking weather band (weather
radios are cheap) it looks as if it would smoke the cherokee from
looking at the inside photos.
The cherokee's are going for way more than I am willing to pay for a
radio that just doesn't look that robust, I would gladly pay the galaxy
price for a more quality product.
What are your takes on these products or do you have any other
suggestions?

Hello Chad! Go with the Galaxy. The Cherokee CBS 1000 was a flash in the
pan and no longer manufactured and for too many reasons. The Tomahawk
was the knock-off of this radio and much better. It had FM instead of
the weather band. The 2547 is a hearty radio and I have heard nothing
but great things about it. Only had one chance to play with that model,
but it was a great operating radio.

Seen a price? They are on E-bay new now for

$269, seems to be the lowest in my limited

search as of now. There are no used ones. I

feel this is a good thing!

I haven't paid attention to the price since they arrived on the market.
I think they were a bit more than that when they first came out, but
that seems about right. I have a friend in western Michigan who has one
and raves about it. Good luck with your purchase and let me know how it
turns out. No used ones to be had is probably a good thing. Those that
bought them must be keeping them.
