Well I am liking the looks of the 3900, and I'm a ham radio operator
licensed to run 10m so that might be just the radio I'm looking for - saw a
website where for 30 bucks you can open it up for 11m and beef it up some
(legally) - thanks for the tip there, George...wouldn't mind working 10m hf
when I'm OTR as well

if you going to get a radio, go ahead and get a SuperStar 3900, it has

echo,
more channels...more watts...very easy to operate and only about 20

dollars
more if not the same. Don't pay attention to the anti-CB, anti-amplifier
****heads that takes the fun out of communications. There are literally
hundreds of radios that out perform the 29 Nigh****ch, quality in it is

OK,
but I have seen to many problems in the last year with this model. Needle
goes out, lose wiring, external jacks get lose easily
and the receive (in my opinion) sucks. Right now I am using a HR2510 that

I
found for 100 bucks.
I did a few mods and it is one of the best all around radios I have EVER
owned. BETTER than Galaxy 33-99's. I use a Sedelta Echo Master Plus mic

and
it is crystal clear. Mobile use is a Magnum S-3, no amp needed . 50 watts
out the box, 185 bucks...AM/FM...I don't use ssb when I am on the road. My
base to mobile....about 60 miles with out added amps..
