Well, the 'gentleman' I am thinking of was Mike, W2OY, and he was

of the Buffalo, NY, area back in the 60s (when I first got on the air)

probably some decades before as well. He was a class "A" licensee.

I actually talked to him once. On 75 meters in an abortive attempt to
get
on for the first time. He throughly thrashed my attempt. But as they
say.....What don't kill ya, makes ya stronger.

Hello, Dan

Well, I did manage to talk with him, despite being a "wet-bottom boy"
(WB2). Had a nice conversation with him and finally he said that the
grandkids had arrived and he wanted to go give them a paddling. I've
heard
(and won't go by this) that he was actually a nice guy but liked to stir
the
soup, so to speak, on the air.

Heck, I found 40 words per minute or so got his blood pressure to rise
through the roof and we couldn't even hear him LOL.

Life is too short; I need to stick around a few years as I haven't pi**ed
on
enough graves yet
