Must be, I had a chance to research that freq and it is allocated to MEMA.
It is
strange that it sounded like hf fax but transmitted in fm. Never heard it
on
that freq before, actually never heard anything on that freq and I have it
programed in my scanner.
I've been hearing all kinds of wierd/new/different stuff on VHF
lately. I've been getting a big-city fire department (voices are all NY/NJ
accents; I'm in KY), the Dallas/Ft. Worth 10-meter repeater, all kinds of
6-meter stuff, police/sheriff depts. I don't usually get, both sides of
conversations that used to be only one-sided (like the ground guys talking
to medevac helicopter KY 1), a bunch of new railroad chatter (had the freqs
programmed, only heard stuff on a couple of channels until recently).
Anyway, it's been enough fun that I've ordered a Scantenna I'm going
to throw up 30 feet and see what it can do.....
