Much more to listen to out there. Emergency Services, aviation, railway,
marine, RCMP, etc. But most major centres have
gone digital, and a few are APCO-25, which is not available on publicly
available scanners.

Check out the RS Pro-96 for
APCO-25 scanning....

Somewhat corrected.

It's $499 U.S. but...

Would be close to $1000 once the exchange and taxes are factored in, not to
mention any state taxes that may apply upon
purchase. Some stores will forgive the state sales tax for Canadians, but
others will not.

At that price certainly would not be the first on the block to have one
unless it works within the APCO-25 GE/Erickson
enivroment we have here in Vancouver (and what ever might be used in
Calgary, Edmonton, Toronto or other major
centres).

Not sure exactly which of two kinds are used, but the Pro-96 will decode
Phase I C4FM only. It does not decode
CQPSK, nor is anything able to decode Phase II APCO-25 systems right now.

...and if the emergency services decide to upgrade and encode the APCO-25
differently than what is now used, then what?

The pro-96 is going in the right direction, but not there yet. Still a bit
of more travelling to do.
