If all of the commercial radios manufactures can make them for public
safety vehicles, there is no reason uniden can't make them available at
reasonable prices.

I can't believe that in this day and age there are no scanners that
have a remote head feature for mobile installation. I know that
scannermaster has been working on a remote head project for the 780,
but you would think that Uniden would just throw together a remote
head package for some high end scanners.

Anyone have any links or information on this topic ???

It does make alot of sense. Scannermaster has been working on it for quite
some time.

Scannermaster says it won't be cheap. Because they have spent alot of time
and engineering time on it.

But would it be reliable as it will be available as a kit for the 780.

But one does wonder why Uniden doesn't offer a control head / detachable
faceplate version for the BC780 in the
first place, since the radio is made for them, and it's alot easier to have
them made during the primary manufacturing process
rather than reley on others to come up with something that hasn't been
factory tested. It's just me I'm a stickler for
quality assurance.

Makes sense so you can detach the control head and put in the glove
compartment to thwart theives. You can take off
the radio now, but that means disconnecting things and reconnecting the
power, antenna and possibly the external speaker
wire when you've put away the grocery bags of milk, meat, brussell sprouts,
Count Chocula, etc.

A control head makes sense for a mobile application. Even Motorola did that
with the old Motorola Motrac radios that were a fixture in emergency
vehicles. TV viewers saw the Motrac control head mated to a Motorola speaker
and Federal Signal Interceptor siren control box in Adam-12 and Emergency!

If Uniden did make a control head version, they would be able to use a
larger case and more circuitry inside to make
the scanner more powerful and add additonal features to make the radio more
sensitive. The 780XLT is a great radio,
but could use more sensitivity. I've noticed the Pro-95 is more sensitive
than the 780XLT.

But Uniden could have added alphanumerics to the BC245XLT too, eh?

Just my three cents (two cents Canadian at current exchange)
