I have winscan and it has a button marked record audio to wav file.

I don't know what I am doing wrong but I can't seem to find the audio wave
files.

I can record to a recorder, but can't seem to get it to record to a wave
file on my computer.

It is in the winscan folder. If you want to use something better for the
recording and control then try Trunkstar780. Winscan780 will breakup
each transmission into a new .wav file. Trunkstar780 will keep
everything in one file with the time and date stamped.
