You misunderstand a motivation for obtaining a non-USA
version IC-R5.

The problem with the USA version IC-R5 (and IC-R20) is
that ICOM deleted more than just the cellular
phone frequencies. They cut important frequencies which are used by
police, fire, and other agencies in the United States.


Yep, Icom screwed up the R5 royally! I can't believe they even sell any US
versions. Everyone should know by now about the R5. The unblocked version is
really neat.

The USA version IC-R5 will not receive
822 - 824, 849 - 851, 867 - 870, and 894 - 896 MHz

Frequencies in the 867 - 868 MHz
range (and 45 MHz below) are used by 3 local towns
which I monitor but the USA version IC-R5 and IC-R20 omit those segments.
