I was wondering if this scanner is being phased out? I know you have to

Probably, since the similar BC796 has replaced it. The BC796 includes the
card as standard, works with 9600 baud control channels as well as a
couple other improvements.
I got stung by this. I bought a 785D which can't get the Michigan State
Police trunked at 9600 baud. Michiganders beware! Of course I need a 796
now.
I wish they offered the same optition of buying the radio without the
digital card. I think the 785 its just about identicall
to to the 796D except for the 9600 baud trunking that the 796D has. I know
AOR has an add on box that will work with other radios if they have a If
out. Some of the older radios do or can be modified but I think the AOR box
is 350.00
