I can see how Linux would be immune to the code written into this virus, but
how would it keep you from being flooded by infected e-mail?

I just got an automated e-mail from an ISP saying "WARNING: YOU WERE SENT A
VIRUS". It also sent to many other addresses. All the addresses I
recognized were also posters to rec.antiques.radio+phono. I suppose one of
their readers got infected. Even guys there with Web TV are getting
flooded.
