I saw a Grundig pocket radio on sale at Rat Shack for $49 CAN.
I tried it, but it was a POS that couldn't even receive WWV :-\
Arnie Coro says the cheaper they are the more they benefit from an
antenna tuner. Course unless you build your own, thats gonna run you
another 50 bucks or more.
I have the Sony ICF-SW7600GR and payed 130 for it. Its arguably one of
the best small portables for the money. It picked up Radio Botswana,
Radio Orbita 3 (Russian 50kw) , and Radio Nigeria from Vermont last
night with just a short outside random wire.
Some of the cheaper Sangeans are also noted to be quite good and less
expensive.

Agreed. My own radio is a Sangean ATS-505 (Radio Shack DX-402), and I
got it during a big RS sale for a C-note - they normally retailed it for
$150. I don't see how you can get more performance for less money than
that deal(at least when buying new).
