Probably reflects the fact that Sony is getting out of the shortwave
radio market. Heard that they recently laid off a bunch of employees
around the world, in an effort to "refocus." I suspect that they feel
that advertising bucks can be much better spent elsewhere. Eton has a
very aggressive marketing machine in place. However, I do think that LM
may have bought in to the Eton thing somewhat. I still find it hard to
believe that the Grundig 800 stacks up as well as it does in the
Passport reviews. You would be led to believe that the Sat 800 is every
bit as good as something like the Icom R75. Having owned both, I can't
say that I agree.

Anyone notice there are no Sony ads!

Dennis... I think you discovered something of importance! After reading
your post I had to take a look myself---there are NO Sony ads! In fact, I
count 14 Grundig ads---11 of which are two page spreads for Eton
Coroporation: Grundig North America! This might be a first for Passport; I
sort of looked forward to those nicely done Sony adverts too.

We've observed in the past that LM doesn't like JRC... reckon he expanded
his distaste to everything Japanese? Maybe it's a political correctness
sort of thing... he does seem to push Chinese ;-)
