Tonight, I found out that one of the six Radio Shack AA batteries in my
Grundig YB400PE has leaked and caused significant damage to the case and
innards of the radio.

What can I expect from Radio Shack at the retail level? Will this be a
drawn-out thing with letters and phone calls to head office back and

forth
for weeks?

My guess is they will look at your batteries, radio and damage and
say: "We've got some great sales right now on cell phones! How about a
cell phone?"

Probably the funniest parody to the deer-in-the-headlights response by RS
employees that I have ever heard. Let's hope their actual reply is a little
more on target. Of the 8 or so stores in Virginia Beach I have actually met
a few employees that were knowledgeable, helpful, and problem-solvers. They
obviously aren't paying the bills from radio hobbyist purchases, so I guess
we're lucky the chain even caters to us at all anymore. And thanks for
reminding us to take the batteries *out* of our SW's when they aren't being
used. I probably have my YB400PE stoked with the same batteries, but I never
had any problem with them in that radio or hh scanners either.
