If need be ask for the manager and he just may replace the radio. I
don't know what kind of warranty they have on their batteries. They DO
sell Grundig radios so it should be little trouble for them to pull a
YB400 off the shelf and install new batteries for you. The average
salesman may not have the authority to make that decision.

Perhaps you should photograph the radio & especially the battery
compartment and batteries - very well - in case they have second
thoughts about taking care of the problem. Don't even present the
photos to them unless they balk on making a satisfactory correction to
the situation but then you could very gently let them know that the
situation is documented. Be SURE that it is before you approach them.

I've found most of them to be pretty reasonable when approached
reasonably, especially for good customers! ;-)

The RS salesman looked at the code on the battery carton and acknowledged
that the batteries were recently sold. And, they are clearly marked Radio
Shack batteries. And, the radio is new and clean.

How long were the batteries in there? If many months then it's your
