Codes, what codes?

Ya just yell over to the guy sitting in the other chair and tell him to

push the
damn button.

Actually, you touch on an interesting point Ace. Let's say the silo receives
an *authorised* command to launch a warhead enabled ICBM and your partner
refuses to 'turn the key'. The Urban Myth, ie. The film War Games, indicates
the commander can and should 'shoot' the partner....what happens next?

Well, that's just *one* silo... It's rather doubful that that would or could
happen at *all* silos. The folks who have that type of duty are screened pretty
well.

Most likely, if time and circumstances permitted, another individual would be
sent to relieve the uncooperative individual.

I realise this is a safety consideration, but does the launch simply get
aborted? Or, can one key be turned and the other turned as needed to
complete the Fire sequence. Further, what type of shifts do these guys do?
Do they stay in the launch room for days at a time? I saw plans, years ago,
of a missile site which provided a bed, facilities, etc which indicates
they're down there for more than a simple eight-hour shift.

Just wondering is all. That would be a heavy job.
