Kachina:
Bear in mind that I'm new to this SWL thing, so my questions can seem
relatively naive.
It appears that the EF-SWL is a long wire antenna. I think I read that it
was about 45 feet long. You indicated that you have one on the roof. Can you
describe how you have it set up? I have about a 35 foot wire in my attic
with a cable downlead to my Satellit 800, and its kind of noisy. I would
like to put one outside on the roof, but I would like to get some ideas on
how to rig it up.

Brent, Jacks right, a balun and a run of antenna wire, will get you some
good
results. You could also try Par Electronics EF-SWL, which costs just a bit
more
than a good balun. It's set up, with insulators, ready to go right out of
the
box. You can even configure the transformers ground, at the feed point,
which
is equipped with two grounding terminals, and a shorting connection. All
you
need to do is try each of the grounding options, and see which one works
best
for reducing noise. I've got one up on the roof, and it works very
well...nice
and quiet. Good DXing to you, Gary
