Having "played" with a friend's heavily modified ICOM IC-R75, I believe
this radio is also a "defective" design and is, in fact, a fraud (my
opinion).

It appears, at least to me, to be a "bottomless modification pit"
costing enough money (and aggravation and disappointment) to make it
well worthwhile to just forget about this "Japanese wonder" and buy the
Grundig Satellit 800 which costs $449.95 or less. No expensive or
inconvenient modifications are necessary for the Grundig! And, it gives
at least 95% of the performance of a Drake R8B or AOR AR7030 Plus at
only one-third the price.

My friend likes his radio; however, I've commented to him that if he
likes it so much, why does he have to keep modifying it? His radio has
cost him, thus far, over $1000. (And, he's not a "nut." His concerns
with the performance of his radio are well-founded.) For that kind of
money, you could buy a Drake or an AOR.

If ICOM were truly a class act, again in my opinion, they would upgrade
the 'R75 as its shortcomings are well-known by now, and they should
even offer to arrange "fixes" for those radios already in service.
