Well Jim
If I contact VK#xx on 20M and we talk about emergency orgs in our two
countries
or benefits of an antenna modeling program
or a mutual invite to visit each other should we travel ----- then we are
"Hamming".

If the band goes out and we switch to echolink and continue the QSO -- then
we are NOT "Hamming" !

If an emergency occurs and the Lids are jammed up on 2M -- thats hamming
If I use echolink and get thru -- thats not hamming ?

You made a very important point i.e., "they (Hams) are using the internet to
communicate"
Now that gotta be a good thing.

Exactly what does echolink and the internet have to do with ham radio ?

Yes, most of the users of echolink may be hams, but they are using the
internet to communicate, not ham radio. I am sure that is fun to some
folks, but it is far removed from ham radio !!

As I type this message, I am using the internet. Many hams will see this
message. But I AIN'T Hamming !!!!!!!!

Just my opinion............. no flames please !!
