Can't swear to it, but I seem to recall a problem with gold/tin

Gold migration?

Usually gold to tin is ok. What can be a problem is if the gold is
over copper rather than nickel for the edge card connectors. I had a
few computers that were "poisoned" with connectors that had gold over
either poor nickel or non-existent nickel plate and they were very
problematic with copper migration. They developed a "shake well
before using" problem requiring the system to have the cards pulled
and reinserted to break through the film that resulted. The gold
connectors tend to loose their gold shine and turn greensih to dull
gray if thats a problem. Never had that problem with PL259s/SO239s.
I have had some cheap silver/gold PL259s given to me that were
dimensionally sloppy, likely cheap manufacturing.

Bingo! You jogged my mind. I knew it had something to do with a card edge
connector.
