And help, references, links, etc., would be appreciated . . . .
This book has a lot more information on Backporch than on tactical
comms,
but there is some discussion of tactical radios and procedures on both
sides:
Military Communications: A Test for Technology. BOOK. 1986. Describes
the
advantages and disadvantages of high technology in communications, as
applied to battlefield operations during the Vietnamese Conflict.
Emphasis
is placed upon the building and installing of communications systems
from
1965 through 1970. Transfer of the communications systems to the South
Vietnamese from 1970 through 1973, is also discussed. (Clothbound) 535

Check out this site http://militaryradio.com/spyradio
an interesting and historical site.......GC
That web site is very interesting. I found the PRC-64 there which
brought a big smile to my face. When I was the Ops Officer (as a CW2)
of the 2d Military Intelligence Detachment, 2d Infantry Division,
Ton-Du-Chon, Korea, 1973-1974, we had several of the PRC-64 radios on
our Intelligence Property book. One of them actually worked and I
remember sitting in my hootch one night copying ham radio Morse on the
40 meter band.
As far as I could figure out they had been issued to our detachment in
the early 1960's when there was an operational plan to place
clandestine agents in case the North Koreans invaded. The
"stay-behinds" would use the radios to communicate.
I managed to clean out the property book account of all kinds of
useless stuff and the PRC-64's went down to 8th Army HQ G2.
Cheers,
Dave
Dave, here is more radio stuff
