Collins R-388 sensitivity

All true. But the info I have says the R-388/51J-3 has hi-z input.
To add some confusion to an OLD thread:
According to the schematic glued to the underside of the top cover of my R388,
the antenna does indeed go directly to the top of the antenna coil and the RF
amp grid, thru a small cap -- the Hi-Z setup.
BUT -- I have a complete Collins manual for the 51J-3, definitely not R388, and
its schematic shows the exact same thing! No link primary windings on the
antenna coils.
So it appears that BOTH the 51-J-3 and R388 were made for hi-Z antennas, and
the ER mods are relevant to either radio.
Anyway, it's neat to have a Collins that's designed to work on a short hank of
wire tacked up to the ceiling. Though it plays plenty well on my big dipole
with 52-ohm coax. 73, Mike K.
