has anyone had a problem with the magnum 257 dropping down 10 khz when
the power is turned on? this happens when the on-off knob is turned to
the on position. i thought it maybe an issue with my truck but it
happened when wired direct to the battery as well as inside on a power
supply. this issue doesn't affect the way the radio talks. works fine
when on the supply going into the 5/8 wave ground plane.
thanks in advance

Are you still using the stock mic? Keep in mind that the stock mic's
up/down button is pulsed with with the either the 12V coming up the mic
cord or ground, I can't remember off the top of my head. If you have this
wire tied to another it may see the turn on as a channel change. when
rewiring a mic with no channel change the pin 6 and pin 4 must be
disconnected and insulated off.
I can get you more details if you need them.
Here pin out of the mic socket
1- audio
2- Receive
3- Transmit
4- CH up/down
5- Ground
6- 12V from power input with NO CURRENT LIMITING.

HelloChad and thanks for the reply.
I thought of the mic, too. I tried a radio shack mic from a HTX-10, which
used the same type mic with up and down buttons. I also wired a road king
mic which has no up/down buttons, but still had the same problem. I also e
mailed a couple of shops but everybody said they had never heard of this
issue before. Its kind of strange because it in now way affects the
performance of the radio. A few years ago I had another 257 that had the
orange display and never had this issue. Other than that it's not a bad
little radio for what it is (price range). It picks up a little more noise
than some of the Galaxy/Connex type radios but I figured it was a compromise
I could live with because of the smaller size.
