Ahoy.
I have a new CB and a new Wilson Lil Wil antenna. The instructions with
the Lil Wil say to:
Check SWR on channel 1
Check SWR on channel 40
If channel 1 has a lower SWR than channel 40, cut 1/4" from the antenna
top and measure again...continue until the SWR for channel 1 and 40 is
about equal.
Channel 1 gave me a nice low 1:1.4
Channel 40 gave me a nasty 1:2.8
So I snipped off 1/4" and measured again.
Channel 1 gave me 1:1.3
Channel 40 gave me 1:2.5
So my question is, snipping off that 1/4" really improved the channel 1
SWR but only dropped channel 40 a little bit. How many 1/4" increments
am I gonna hafta snip before these two equal out?
Also, I'm guessing that at some point, channel 1 is going to start to go
back up (instead of improving)...should I stop there and live with
whatever the higher channels are displaying? Rather than continuing to
snip until 1 and 40 are about equal?
Thanks,
Kahuna
You are correct, it is possible to cut too much off, and the Channel 1 SWR
will start going up. But, there is nothing terribly wrong with the readings
your getting. It's always nice to get a better match, so I would continue
clipping, but only until you get the Channel 40 SWR down below 1:2. Then
don't worry about it. The Channel 1 SWR is already very good, and you are
never going to notice the slight mismatch at the high end.
