I've been lurking here a bit, but I must report experience.
If there is an intervening conductive layer, the system is two caps in
series, nothing works.
On my old BMW 2002tii with film on the inside, I just cut the film and ran a
pair of Larsens for years.
When my son got his ticket (KD5RHI) I gave him the radio, a Kenwood 3 bander
(144, 220, 440), and he ran it on a Chevy Tahoe, Larsen's glued to the side
to clear a parking garage, with no problems; Tinted glass, no film.
Recently we tried the same Larsen's on my son's new Volvo, with the SAME
radio, the tint forced us to use a trunk lid mount, as he wasn't too keen on
cutting the film on his new Volvo.
I have not seen a glass tint cause a problem.
I HAVE seen applied films and defoggers cause problems.
So if the tint is due to an electrically conductive layer it will be an
issue.
If it's an applied film, you can cut it successfully, I did, but I kept the
car 24 years, too.
