Yep, a bridge of 1N1007's did the trick, in both locations. Turn down the
filamant pot, first, then power-up and re-adjust with the filament voltage
to the required 1.4 volts. Before replacing the diodes, the best I could
get was about 1.2 volts.

My AN/GRR-5 ( http://antiqueradio.org/angrr-5.htm ) works, but I should
replace those rectifiers, I suppose. Did you use something like a 1N4007
diode? Haven't looked at the schematic in ages.
