So I'm curious to know if there are any general SWL online groups,
aside from this fine rec.radio.shortwave, that any of you folks might
recommend. Back when I remember that the old SWL group on QTH.net was
pretty active but I guess that the cantankerous ways of that Duane, the
list administrator, has put enough people off that this group is only a
shadow of what it once was. It's my understanding that a lot of the
activity has gone to the Yahoo groups but there seem to be so darn many
of them that I just thought I'd ask here which of these groups is
worthwhile and not inundated with junk, spam and nonsense. There seem
to be a lot of Yahoo groups of such specificity as to render them
useful only if you want opinions on a particular product or if you're
having trouble with that particular product. What I'm looking for is
simply a few decent, general SWL groups, Yahoo or otherwise, which have
large enough of an active membership to make membership worthwhile.
There are LOTS of them on the Yahoo! Groups site. See
http://groups.yahoo.com and search for "shortwave" -- you'll get lots of
hits. You can also look directly in the category at:
http://dir.groups.yahoo.com/dir/1603396379
(points to Hobbies & Crafts Hobbies Amateur and Ham Radio
Shortwave)
There are also groups dedicated to specific types of monitoring (pirate
radio, numbers stations, etc.) and to specific broadcasters. You'll
also find groups dedicated to manufacturers (Yaesu, ICOM, etc.) and to
specific radios (Sony ICF-SW100, Yaesu FRG-100, etc.).
Plenty of stuff to keep you busy...! ;-)
