Default SENGEAN ATS 909

Greeting: I bought the Sengean ATS 909. I got it at J&R here in NYC.
It cost me $219.00. It has a lot of features I like. Including
LBS/USB. It also came with an external wire antenna. Cool.

I was looking around for the best portable SW radio I could find. I
hope this is it. I know that it is not a new model, but I think it will
work better then my old Sony ICF 2010.

I also bought the Koss Pro/4AA headphones. Their big & heavy. This is
the real thing. I plan to use this at home for a bigger SW radio.

You will be happy with it if you can feed it. Mine is an exceptional
radio but greedy for power. It chews up batteries and will operate ONLY
with the expensive alkalines. Put in bargain-basement imports and it
doesnt even turn on.

It wont even turn on with expensive high capacity NiMH's ...It says "SIX
volts, not 4.8 !"

I have a MESS of NiMH cells so I am going to put a six-cell battery
holder together to hold the NiMH's rather than use a noisy wall wart.

Be prepared for that eventuality altho I hear each one has it's own
personality. Many complain they are deaf on whip, while mine is HOT!

Perhaps that's why it eats the amps!
