It is VERY, VERY rude to post binaries to discussion groups. This is
about the most offensive thing you can do on Usenet. As a result, a lot
of backbone sites (including the one upstream of me) dump all binaries
in discussion groups.

binary posts in thse groups.

In which case, the picture should have been uploaded to the
poster's website and a link provided. Are there reeally that many ISPs
who don't provide at least a few meg for this purpose?

It's also a courtesy to those with low-speed connections who
read text-only groups. If they feel it's worth their line time to pull
the binary down using the link, they're free to do so, but not forced
to do so.
