Dave - Caution - Techs, Hams & catalogs have used confusing
descriptions of adaptors. Some call them by what fits on each end, and
others describe the ends. Be sure to describe in detail: "N Female is
on one end, & UHF Male is on the other end" or "Adapts a N Male to a
UHF Female connector". This is the common one, but the opposite exists.
Amphenol is OK- except for the PL-259, 831SP, or 'UHF' Male. The silver
plated PL-259, with Teflon, are much easier to solder to, & less lossy.
If stuck with Amphenol Male, file around the holes, & twist rolled
emery cloth or sandpaper inside the surface near holes; clean out. Tin
braid on RG-8 / RG-213, & cut with tubing cutter after cool. Twist into
connector, past ends of holes. Solder each hole quickly with a hot
iron, & sweat 360 degrees around connector. Cool down with alcohol
moistened cloth - not water. Yellow insulation can char.
