I didn't mean to imply that you didn't have the skills to build a
basic transmitter and receiver, it's just that it's almost impossible
to get the parts. There are a few companies that offer kits. Maybe that
is the place to start. Refurbishing an old ebay special would teach you
a lot without the major hassle of finding parts and designing a rig
around them.
