To query the Comcast modem, use IE (Mozilla don't work) and type in
the following URL 192.168.100.1
You should get a screen that looks like the attached .doc file.

That address works with the Scientific-Atlanta WebSTAR DPC2100 cable
modem, but only the "System" button is active, and it comes up as the
default.

That is a fairly standard IP address usage for DOCSIS 1.0/2.0 compliant
cable modems. The Linksys and Motorola modems also use these addresses as a
default.

You can look at the statistics on some of these modems, however the firmware
and configuration files for various cable modems are only uploaded from the
head-end of the cable system's equipment.

IF you have a router/gateway after the modem, these are usually 192.168.1.1

Thanks. They didn't have broadband internet on cable systems when I
worked in the business. I repaired headend and distribution equipment
back in the '80s.

Actually, I have a Linksys router and a Belkin Wireless G router on
my network. The Linksys is in the 192.168.1.X range, but the Belkin is
in the 192.168.2.X range. I have it set up this way because the DHCP
server in the Belkin is a severe bottleneck, dropping my bandwidth down
to barely more than dialup, but the Linksys gives me over 2 Mb per
second. I should have taken the Belkin crap back to Circuit City they
day that I bought it.
