At the end of the 23:59 minute, there's two seconds empty.

(Saves you counting to 60.)

The beep is on the zero second, the the click is omitted for seconds 29
and 59 (and, when there's a leap second, 23:60).



Thank you for clarifying that. I was worried sick that I'd turn the
clocks the wrong way!
