Same reason the Air Force still can't talk to the ground pounder
unless they stick an AF guy with an AM rig with them on the ground. Sigh
Nah. We had a surplus outfit here in Tucson that cut up old Air Force
planes at DMAFB (The Boneyard).
I bought a Collins KWM-1 from them that came out of a B-47. They were
using SSB a long time ago. I wish I had kept that radio as it might
have been very widely traveled.
Yes Wes, and SSB IS AM.
Technically, yes; so is on-off keyed CW by that definition. I was
thinking of SCR-522s on two-meters. [g]
If you were an Old Crow, you still are. By any
chance know Duke Knief?
No, don't know him. I was an "industry" Crow. To my regret I was
never in the military although I would have been had a Navy recruiter
not lied to me about my enlistment. But I guess that's a redundancy.
Most of the AOC meetings were lunchtime affairs and I felt guilty
leaving work for hours to go out to D-M for them so I quit paying my
dues and participating.
We did have one memorable dinner meeting where I met Col. Hambleton,
who was the guest speaker and protagonist in the book and movie, "Bat
21."
Was out to Davis Monthan last year, all those single flight C-141's was
sickening. From the factory to the boneyard just to protect some
congressmans turf.
Just think of it as a jobs program for engineers.
