Just general knowledge in the history of ham radio, but a little
obscure, so let me 'splain...
To clarify, he is referring to when Morse code transmissions (using
vacuum tube oscillators that generated a continuous wave or "CW") were
displacing Morse code transmissions by spark gap transmitters (that
generated a 'damped' wave).
The guys with the thundering kilowatt rotary spark gap transmitters
thought those wimpy little 10 and 20 watt vacuum tube transmitters were
going to be the death of the hobby.
